The Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (“PAIA”) allows access to records held by a private body where the record is required for the exercise or protection of a right.

1. Purpose and business

This page explains how to request access to records held by Entertainworx, a Johannesburg-based provider of DJ, live entertainment, sound and lighting services. Access remains subject to PAIA, POPIA, confidentiality, intellectual-property rights and lawful grounds for refusal.

The Information Regulator publishes a PAIA guide and prescribed forms explaining rights and procedures.

Business area: Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. Electronic delivery is preferred unless another method is reasonably required.

3. Categories of records

Subject to availability and lawful restrictions, record categories may include:

  • company administration and governance records;
  • client enquiries, quotations, contracts, event schedules and correspondence;
  • supplier, venue, performer and service-provider records;
  • financial, invoicing, tax and insurance records;
  • personnel and contractor records;
  • equipment, operations, safety and incident records;
  • marketing, website, intellectual-property and media records; and
  • privacy, information-security and regulatory records.

Public website content and published contact information are automatically available without a formal PAIA request.

4. How to make a request

  1. Complete the prescribed PAIA Form 2: Request for Access to Record.
  2. Identify the record clearly enough for it to be located.
  3. Explain the right you seek to exercise or protect and why the record is required for that purpose.
  4. State your preferred form of access and provide reliable contact details.
  5. Email the signed request and supporting proof to Graeme@entertainworx.co.za.

We may ask for proof of identity, authority to act for another person, or clarification needed to process the request.

5. Decisions, fees and grounds for refusal

Requests will be considered within the periods prescribed by PAIA. Statutory request, search, preparation, reproduction or delivery fees may apply where permitted, and access may be deferred until required fees are paid.

PAIA permits or requires refusal in circumstances including protection of another person’s privacy, commercial confidentiality, privileged material, safety, law-enforcement interests, research information and records whose disclosure would breach a legal duty. If access is refused, the written outcome will identify the basis and available remedy as required by law.

6. Complaints and remedies

If a request is denied or no response is received within the applicable period, a requester may lodge a complaint using PAIA Form 5 with the Information Regulator at PAIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za. Court remedies may also be available.

This access guide should be read with our Privacy Policy. A request for your own personal information may engage both PAIA and POPIA.
